What is "The Message is IN the Music"?

Finally, a book about Gospel Music that is written by a Gospel Musician.  “The Message is in the Music”, written by Stellar Award Nominee and Tyscot Recording gospel saxophonist, Harold Rayford, addresses the spiritual needs of those persons actively involved in presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ through song, dance and other traditional and non-traditional methods.

The first section of the book deals with the importance of keeping the Gospel of Jesus Christ at the center of Gospel Music.  Gospel Music has gained social acceptance over the past ten years.  This new status represents a great opportunity for the Gospel Music community to reach and win souls.  However, souls cannot be won unless the message of Jesus Christ is propagated at every occasion.

The second section of the book speaks of several common pitfalls in ministry.  It identifies traps that have snared and hindered many singers and musicians.  These traps represent the normal experience of anyone that is destined for greatness.  Unfortunately, some have been unprepared for these simple distractions.  The results of failing to overcome these common pitfalls, which are identified in the book, can be detrimental to a person’s reputation.

Finally, the book addresses that awkward time of waiting for the “Big Break”.  Many people feel that they possess special gifts and that they are one appearance away from making it big.  The Bible says in Proverbs 18:16, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.”  This book tells us that the most critical time in the life of a gifted person is not after they have attained success, but it is how they handle themselves before attaining success.  The habits one develops during the apprenticeship period will be magnified once the doors are opened.  Harold Rayford refers to this period as “While your gift makes room for you”.  He offers some practical advice concerning what to do while you wait for God to open the doors of opportunity.

This book is a must for all singers, musicians, choir directors, songwriters, praise dancers, pastors and ministers.
